4000 Obsolescence Notification

After 20 years as the premier multiprotocol avionics communications family of boards in the industry, the Excalibur 4000 family of boards is becoming obsolete due to the obsolescence of several parts on the board including the 96-pin connector. The natural upgrade for boards in this family is the 8000 family which currently includes the EXC-8000PCIe card. These cards will be joined by the EXC-8000PCI and EXC-8000cPCI in the coming year. For projects requiring one or two modules the EXC-4000PCIHC and EXC-4000PCIeHC (Half Card) can replace the EXC-4000PCI and EXC-4000PCIe cards.

The 8000 family of boards provides double the number of module slots enabling the user to support a wider array of protocols on a single platform. All protocols supported by the 4000 family will be supported by the 8000 family and the API is the same for both families.

Users will note a new, smaller but denser connector on the 8000 boards and some modules max out at a smaller channel count than their M4K equivalents but, since the 8000 boards support twice as many modules, the 8000 base boards will always support at least the same number of channels as the 4000 base board equivalents.
